Auditions

We work hard to ensure that each child who loves to sing feels welcomed and accepted in our choir program. Auditions are to help our directors place your student in the choir that fits your child's interests, experience and age. Most often students are nervous about auditioning at first but once they have finished they say that "it wasn't as bad as I thought, it was kind of fun!"

What to Expect

Auditions take about 15 minutes and provide an important opportunity for the director to get to know the student. Auditions begin with reading a poem (provided and chosen at audition), singing warm-ups and a familiar song. Sometimes students come with a song chosen and memorized, other times they sing a simple song like "Happy Birthday". For students eighth grade and older, theory and sight reading skills will be assessed.

My Child loves to sing, but is not sure about auditioning

You may want to encourage your child to try Arietta Choir first which is an introductory, non-performing choir that does not require an audition.
Sometimes taking your child to visit a rehearsal or performance of the Encore Youth Choir is all that it takes to find the courage to audition.
